Data

What information is required for an initial upload?

In order for Canopy to help you visualize the full picture, please provide us with the following bank statements:

  1. Portfolio/Investment Holdings (or Summary of Assets, or Portfolio Report)
  2. Transactions Report (or Statement of Current Account)
  3. Cash Activity

Ensure that the bank statements are in original electronic PDFs and not scanned paper copies. You may easily request your Banker to provide this on a recurring basis.

How do I upload non-financial assets?

Non-financial assets include real estate, cars, wine, art collection etc.

If you would like us to upload this information for you, please provide us with as much information as you can about the Cost Price, Price Date, Valuation (if available) etc.

If you are uploading on your own in Engine, navigate to Securities > Manual Security Creation, click on Add Private Equity, select relevant Instrument Type and fill in holding details. Also, refer to this article on Creating Private Securities.

How do I search for my Ticker?

Canopy offers a few options to help you easily find your ticker. Refer to this article: Finding and Creating Securities

What is Canopy's price data source?

Our main pricing source is Bloomberg. Prices are updated with end-of-day prices for the previous day. For private instruments such as private funds or structured derivatives issued by your bank, public pricing data is often not available. In such cases, we take the latest price from statements provided by you.

How often is the data updated?

Your data is updated whenever we get fresh information. If all we are getting from you is monthly statements, then your data is updated monthly. If your bank or broker provides daily data feed in any format – including Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) or SWIFT or secure email – Canopy will be updated daily. You can always update any intra-months movements in Engine or ask our team for assistance.

How do I anonymize my data before uploading it?

You can use Canopy’s inbuilt custom PDF Anonymizer tool to remove Personally Identifiable Information (PII) before uploading your data into Canopy. More information on this topic is available here.

Is there an easy way to manually upload multiple transactions in Engine?

The simplest and quickest way to upload multiple transactions in Engine is by using the Canopy UL spreadsheet.

How is NAV calculated?

Detailed information on NAV/performance calculations can be found here.

How can I add new security prices?

The securities feature in Engine allows you to create/delete/add new prices.

How can I upload my Real Estate Transactions?

Real Estate transactions can be booked like normal Purchase/Sale transactions with Quantity being 1 and price being the current value of the real estate.

What if the data displayed in Canopy does not match my bank statements?

If you log in while our data team is processing your statements, the information is being uploaded onto Canopy may be incomplete and will not match. You'll see a “Statement Processing in Progress” preventive/warning pop-up banners displayed at the top of every page to warn you about the display of incomplete data. Furthermore, you would also be able to see a yellow warning icon beside each account that is being processed in the “Select Accounts” Tab.
You will receive an email notification when processing of your data is completed. However, if the data continues to look off after processing is completed, please contact us and our team will be more than happy to solve your issues.

What is the turnaround time?

This is dependant on the volume of data received. Our data processing turnaround time typically is 3-5 working days. The timeline will stretch to 10-14 days should historical statements be provided.

Who owns the data?

The client owns the data.

Security

How secure is Canopy?

Canopy is an ISO 27001:2013 certified company. We practice bank-level security with SHA-256 SSL, 2048 encryption and other database security measures. We also undergo regular system penetration testing.
